iPhone Photography: A New Trend
Many people dream of being an artist, but don’t want to invest a lot of money in art supplies or set aside time to learn how to create art. If you’re one of these people, listen up: you may already have the tool needed to become an artist. And it’s sitting in your pocket or purse right now.
The trend is known as iPhone photography (also called mobilography). People around the world are grabbing their iPhones and using them to take beautiful, artistic photos. In fact, there’s even an iPhone Photography Awards competition that has been in existence since 2007!
Even though she’s experienced in more traditional art forms, Susannah Virginia Griffin has also embraced the world of iPhone photography. Since she (like many Americans) is constantly with her iPhone, she is always prepared to capture those unique moments in life which are truly “artistic.”
Susannah has been snapping iPhone photos since 2010, and she has posted dozens of them to her website. The only modifications she makes to the original shots are with tone and contrast. Some of her favorite subjects include clouds, the sun, and the heavens in general. In fact, Susannah has taken so many iPhone photos that she “can truly fill an entire museum with nothing but clouds and sunshine……..and one day I will.”
You too can channel your imagination through the lens of your iPhone. Here are some suggestions for novice iPhone photographers:
o Never leave home without it.
o Always use both hands to steady the device.
o Try to avoid using the digital zoom box on your iPhone screen.
o Images with simple composition, recognizable patterns, and an interesting sense of scale tend to turn out well.
o Be wary of light and shadows.
o Look for reflections (in water, mirrors, etc.) when possible.
o Don’t be afraid to experiment with unusual angles or abstract images.
Who knows? With a little practice, before long you may join Susannah as an accomplished iPhone photographer!
